How to Make a Family Home Cozier

Cozy home in Philadelphia.

From the perspective of a family, what is a cozy home? “I think a cozy home in Philadelphia presents enough space for your family and making the best of it.”

Jon believes “a cozy home warrants a family coming together, enjoying the delights of daily life.”

For larger homes, it’s easier to incorporate coziness with minor changes, whereas smaller homes can become cozy with the right tricks.

Everyone’s version of a cozy family home stems from good times in their home. And when you’re looking to find ways to sell your home, a cozy story may be just what you need.

1. Change Up the Lighting

Tips to making a family home cozier.

Lighting drives the overall atmosphere of a space. We have witnessed this first-hand when Debbie stages open houses for us. She plays with colors and natural light to blend the space for prospective buyers.

“A floor lamp creates a cozier ambience perfect for a cozy family home.”

Lighting upgrades do not need a major investment. I invested in remote-controlled floor lamps that have varying intensities of light. This feature helps set the mood in the space. And my wife loves the lamp, so it’s a bonus.

2. Create Space For Time Together (& Time Apart)

After I married my wife, both of us realized the importance of “me time”.

A strategically placed armchair near the fireplace works wonders for my wife when she’s reading. The same armchair seats additional guests in the living room when we host friends.

Space can be an issue for smaller homes. Converting a garage or attic can be a long-term renovation to create space for family time.

If your budget is limited or you’re renting a property, get creative. Room dividers and partition walls are a big hit in the DIY community to create a cozy vibe in the room.

3. Organize Group Activities

Family game nights are a must in the Sanborn home. “When I moved into a new home, game nights were a way to make new friends in the neighborhood and feel more at home.”

According to my wife, “cozy is where and how you make it.”

4. Family Cook-Offs

Sell a cozy home.

Family cook-offs? Growing up in Philadelphia with a large community of friends and family meant fun and exciting events. Our neighborhood would meet every month in the community park for a block barbecue.

We had music and sports for the adults, and food songs for the kids. And so much food to go around the entire neighborhood. As an adult, I harnessed this memory to create a family cook-off with my brother at our home.

Summary

A cozy time in your family home in Philadelphia is all about the present and happy memories for tomorrow. The abstract concept of coziness in your home is free-flowing and full of ideas. So what’s your cozy?
