How to Make Moving Easier in Philadelphia: 3 Strategies

Moving in Philadelphia is easy.

Moving is not one of my favorite topics. My wife and I moved recently. It’s been exhausting and daunting. Boxes and packing tape are all I could see for the last month. Since I run a cash home buying business, some moving contacts came in handy.

Overall, moving homes is a huge step. And as Jon fondly puts it, “moving is an art”.

What I’ve realized is that moving to any city is a task. When my friend Stella moved to Philadelphia, she was a first-time seller. So, there was a scope for several things to go wrong. But there are ways to make moving easier.

With many clients investing in homes, we have strategies to make moving easier in Philadelphia.

1. Rent a PODS Moving Container

Pods containers can be used to move easily in Philadelphia.

Using a shipping container moving company can seem intimidating, especially if you’ve never used one. But PODS can save time and the physical labor of moving. People now use PODS more frequently for a move. Even for short distances, PODS has multiple benefits.

Moving containers come in a range of different sizes, similar to trucks. Unlike a moving van that needs to be loaded the same day, PODS can be shipped to your property beforehand. This gives you more time to pack your items and load the moving container gradually, rather than in a hurry.

2. Buy Extra Moving Supplies

There’s nothing worse than running out of supplies when packing for your move. Most movers never regret having extra bubble wrap or newspapers to wrap their items in. That’s why it’s always a good idea to buy more than you need.

The more you have, the more likely you are to use it, which is good. It means you’re more likely to wrap your items properly, keeping them safe and well-protected.

I always tell my wife that “the true hero in a movie is the boxes”. According to Angi, here’s how many boxes you may need depending on your property size:

  • A studio apartment: 10 to 20 boxes
  • One-bedroom apartment: 20 to 30 boxes
  • Two-bedroom house: 60 to 80 boxes
  • Three-bedroom house: 80 to 100 boxes

The amount of bubble wrap and other packing supplies you need depends on how many delicate items you have (like ornaments, tableware, etc.). Professional movers suggest that one to two 100-foot rolls of bubble wrap are needed for a two or three-bedroom house.

For homeowners preparing to sell a house in Philadelphia, you can estimate how soon you need to order supplies based on your closing date.

3. Pack Household Items in Groups

Boxes make moving easy in Philadelphia.

For homeowners who are highly organized, this may seem like common sense. However, when you get lost in the mix of moving, it’s easy to simply shove items randomly into a truck, POD, or storage unit.

To make moving in Philadelphia easier, we recommend packing items in your home room by room. Packing household items together saves you stress and time when preparing to unpack everything later.

For example, pack all kitchen supplies in the same box or container and label it “kitchen”. This can help with knowing which boxes need to be unpacked first. For instance, my wife put up descriptions on the box so it was easier to find things.

The word FRAGILE is your best friend in a move. Mark boxes that contain fragile items as a precautionary step.

Summary

Moving can stress you, but it can be managed. Each time I have moved, these strategies have been helpful. If you want to sell your home and move, test these strategies.
